Guest Bedroom Reveal
A Sunday well spent brings a week of content. I should have had a suspicion that when my Sunday evening started to go a little cray-cray, this week would follow that same mind set.
Monday afternoon I started blogging all about the guest bedroom reveal and had maybe a few lines left to write. I thought I had saved it when I had other matters to attend to but wouldn't you know it, bye bye blog post. Now is that a Monday or what? 😉
So here we are. Going for round two! The guest bedroom is officially complete. What began four weeks ago & a budget of $100 to transform this blank canvas of a room into what I hoped would be a farmhouse dream. The plan may have gone a little off course but I'm so happy to see it finished. So let's begin with the before!
This guest room is very tiny. Not much else can fit in here with a queen size bed. So it's a tight squeeze but it's comfy. (Kind of like skinny jeggings.) 😆 I only had a mattress, dresser and nightstand to begin with. Very plain, simple & boring.
I created a plan that I shared with you all a few weeks ago. In that plan I hoped to create a black, white & creamy neutral farmhouse guest room. But when I shop at a home improvement store - I get overwhelmed with paint colors and I'm like a kid in a candy store. I go hog wild buying paints, paint right away and then have regrets of not sticking to my plan. But, it's cool to be different right? I'm telling myself that it's cool even if it's not.
As the weeks went on, my plans for the room changed. I no longer decided to paint the room, create a feature wall, add crown molding and my furniture arrangement was rearranged. Five thousand times. I have a heck of a time sticking to a plan as you can see.
But I did create a few DIY projects to help me stay on budget and give the room a little oomph. This included painting the dresser & nightstand, staining the wicker chair and creating a headboard.
Then I finally pulled out a whole bunch of decor pieces I had hiding away in closets and in the basement and gave them a permanent location. There were just a few main pieces I bought for the room. But those main pieces took up a huge chunk of my budget. So let me show you the after and then we'll talk money honey!
What do you think? There is a lot I would still like to change in here and I'll fill you in on that below! But let's go over what I spent!
Beginning Budget: $100
-
Dresser, Nightstand, Bed: $0
Wicker Chair: $0
Paint: $12
Stain: $0
Chair Pillow: $5
Bed Sheets, Down Comforter, Duvet: $72
Wood For Headboard: $14
All Other Decor: $0
Total Spent: $105
Not too shabby, eh? As you can see, my biggest spend was my bedding. I tried as hard as I could to get that cost as low as possible but it was really, really hard. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right places but if you were to already have that on hand, you would have had a lot more room to work with.
The next time I make over a room on a budget, here are some things I have learned:
1. Paint goes a long way & makes the biggest transformation.
2. Creating a focal point or feature wall doesn't have to be expensive, just think it through smart-ly. (<- that's a word, promise.)
3. Adding character adds the most charm.
So with these three tips I have in my back pocket, when I transform the guest bathroom I should be able to make it all the farmhouse-y goodness I can imagine. But I would like to eventually come back to this room and finish up a few loose ends. That includes:
1. Trimming out the window.
2. Adding crown molding.
3. Adding beadboard all the way around the room.
4. Change out the light fixture.
5. Purchase new lightshades.
6. Add a cozy rug.
7. Create a gallery wall on long open wall.
That list seems daunting. Maybe I'll create a re-transform room challenge. But not for a long while. I've got a long list of other things I've got to get to first!
Well friends, thank you for reading this long, long, long post. I'm off to go finish up my little ones nursery to share with y'all. Tootles. 👋
