Laundry Room: $100 Room Challenge

Y'all - it is that time of year again! The $100 Room Challenge is back! I am so excited to follow along with my blogger pals as we all choose a room to makeover this fall! If you are new around here and aren't sure what the $100 Room Challenge is, let me fill you in quickly!

Erin, from Lemons, Lavender & Laundry started decorating her home with a budget of $100 per room. It was just enough for a quick refresh of the space! She then opened the challenge for other fellow bloggers to join along! She has made numerous apperances on a local TV show in her hometown, The Jason Show, with tips and tricks for decor ideas for cheap! (Thanks again Erin for hosting this challenge!)

So the skinny is : you have 4 weeks & $100 to transform your space! Sounds completely undo-able, right? Wrong! The spaces that I have seen made over is AMAZING and when you find out that they did it for only $100?! Your jaw just might drop to the floor! This is the going to be the 4th time I have participated in this challenge! You can see my last three reveals here: (Entry Way , TV Gallery Wall , Kid's Bathroom ) I love the challenge for SO many reasons. A) I love a great challenge! I like the little extra thinking I need to do. ;) B) This room makeover can be copied so that ANYONE and ANY BUDGET can replicate! Don't you just hate seeing a room makeover and thinking, "Yeah, that'll never happen in my house!" Guys, I feel that way sometimes too! But if you can be a little crafty & not afraid to sweat a little, it can most certainly happen! This round of the $100 Room Challenge will be a little different from times past! Cutting Edge Stencils is stepping in with some products for us to try! Woo hoo! I've never stenciled before so this certainly is going to be interesting but I love past bloggers who have stenciled their floors, walls, furniture! And it always turns out so beautifully! Now Cutting Edge Stencils did provide us with the materials & supplies that we have chosen but I will account for it all in the budget so that if you were to replicate this room, you too would only need $100! :) So first, things first. Let's take a peek at what the laundry room currently looks like. Yikes..

It's small & plain. We haven't done a thing in here but move our stuff in after we moved in 2.5 years ago. There's nothing magical about washing, drying & folding clothes in here. No window to look out of. It's your typical builder grade laundry room. On one side is just the washer and dryer. On the opposite side is a closet with wire shelving that holds our linens & every day junk and another wire shelving in a little alcove right next to it that holds our detergents, medicines and more junk. It's quite a site y'all. :) My home is a mix of a lot of things. A little farmhouse-y. A little cottage-y. It just happens to hold my favorite things. :) That's the best kind of style right? So I'm just going along with the rest of the house and bringing in things that I like with no rhyme or reason to a specific style. However, after looking at the inspiration board I created, it does feel farmhouse cottage-y to me! So that's what we are going to go with! ;)

The stenciled floor you see up at the top right is the stencil that I chose from Cutting Edge Stencil. It is the Amalfi stencil! Our wall color in the laundry room currently is Zurich White by Sherwin Williams. I do like it and that it is bright in there, which is important to me as there is no window.

The little paint swap next to that is the beige-y color that I plan to use on the stencil. I like neutral, safe colors because I change my mind SO much around here. Accent colors are great for me but big colors: woods or neutrals are always my safe spot! (I could not find the source for this paint color and do not know the name) I went ahead and purchased this galvanized barn light from Home Depot a while back to make sure I had all my supplies in order before beginning the room challenge! (I'll be sure to share all the pricing below!) It will match the farmhouse light that is in our front entry way! (You can see it here!) The pallet wood shelf I actually have on hand already. (The one in the picture isn't mine, just looks very similar!) My FIL & MIL made it for me for my master bathroom. However, after bringing it home, I soon realized that it is way too long for any of the walls in there! And because I hoped for some shelving, I thought the laundry room would be fitting! And the great thing is: it was from free pallet wood pieces and some liquid nails. Cost $0 and I will have the tutorial from them for y'all too! The rug shown was just one I picked up online for some inspiration. It will certainly not be the one I choose as it was starting at $200+! But if you really like that one, here is the link! I had purchased back during my Magnolia Market shopping trip a green wire basket at the Cedar's Chest antique store in McGregor! It's green and rusted and I can't wait to display it! Too, the laundry room sign is something I also had picked up on our shopping trip (not this exact one but very similar and smaller!) that I have been dying to use in the laundry room but have been waiting until time to make the room over! The greenery and wicker basket were thrown in there because I am almost certain they will make apperances in the space as well! :) I tend to always share my plans and then my plans change. I'm a fly by my seat kind of gal usually when it comes to decorating. I think I'll have a plan in place but it can go out the window faster than you can blink! So here in week one, my plan is to clear out the room & go paint shopping! So speaking of shopping, lets talk budget! The Amalfi stencil : $12.95 (I already have the supplies on hand to adhere the paint/stencil to the wall!) The Home Depot Galvanized Light : $28.26 Pallet Wood Shelf : $0 Total Used So Far : $41.21 Total Remaining : $58.79 So I have some budget shopping to do! Wish me luck and I'll be back next week!
