$100 Room Challenge | TV Gallery Wall Week 3
Heya friends! It is WEEK THREE in the $100 Room Challenge! Woah! Times a ticking!
Last week I had brought down the "new" TV stand into our living room and was looking for opinions on what I should do next! Paint, stain or leave it! I had a mixed review from everyone on what to do!
I have left it in the living room to get a feel for it and see if something screams to me on what to do! And as my little guys birthday party came and went and he has "leveled up" on his toys, I knew what was right. But before I go into what my plan is - let me show you a few snapshots of his party because he was just so cute, as always! 😉
Isn't he the sweetest??! Ok, I know, I know. I'm a little biased. 😉
Anywho - back to the challenge! So because my sweet boy has a lot more big toys rather than little ones, he's in need of a lot more space to play cars and ride his little baby 4 wheeler! So, because my hubs *really* doesn't want me to paint the TV stand (which I do understand, not sure grandma would of appreciated it!) And the chunk is so heavy to move, I'm going to be taking out the coffee table and replacing it with something else. This way the wood hues aren't SO close together and I'm not so matchy-matchy, which I'm not a fan of that anyways! So once the coffee table is out of there, I'd like to find a circular basket or ottoman to replace it that will be easy to move for car chasing and no more head bumps or possible eye gauges. Ugh - coffee tables + babies learning to walk = NOT A GOOD MIX!
Then the left over toys he does have, I have set 2 baskets inside the TV stand that will be filled with his littler toys. These baskets are such a WIN because a) they hold his toys I don't want shown all day, b) he loves to open up the TV cabinet doors and pull the baskets out anyways and c) they create a nice warm look already to the TV stand! YAS!
So now that that dilemma is out of the way, it's time to chat about some DIY I fit in this week!
If you remember back on week one, I talked about how I wanted to re-create the cozy look of Our Vintage Nest's TV wall! So I am working my way, top to bottom!
I set out to make the long wood framed sign. I thought it would be easy peasy to get a long canvas wrapped board instead of wood. When I went to Michaels I thought that lovely idea wasn't going to be an option anymore when I seen the 12" × 36" canvas was WAY OUT OF BUDGET. And since I have only $100 to spend, that wasn't going to be an option as I'm just getting the items needed for this wall!
But then - the angels came singing to me.
Michael's a few days later had their ever so wonderful, 70% off sale. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. (That's me singing!) So between my 70% off discount AND a 20% off entire purchase including Sale items, I got that canvas for $4.32. Cha-ching!
So I went home and began to think of what I wanted my sign to say. So after scouring Pinterest, I came to the final decision of: " What I love most about my home is coming home to you. "
So being my ambitious self, I decided to wing my hand writing and give it a whirl. So I started out in pencil and erased and fixed along the way!
From there I took a fine point sharpie marker I had on hand and traced out my saying..
Then to really make it POP and look a little more calligraphy like, I faked a calligraphy pen and made my down lines thicker..
I filled them in with my marker and really loved the end result look!
It just made the letters easier to read from farther away!
So next on my list is framing this canvas in wood!
I also purchased my two large black frames for the left side of my TV Gallery Wall! Michael's again for the win - $8 total. Woot, woot!!
So what I have spent so far:
TV: $0 (Had)
TV STAND: $0 (Passed on to us)
CANVAS ART (Canvas & Marker): $4.30
2 BLACK FRAMES: $8.40
TOTAL SPENT: $12.70
REMAINING BUDGET: $87.30
Now, there is a LOT of reasoning as to why it seems as if I have done very little up until this point. This Friday I am headed 2 hours away to go thrifting at a very large outdoor flea market and I'm *hoping* to find a floor lamp and baskets or something similar for the opposite side of my wall! Oh I love me some flea marketing, junk pickin!
So here's what I have left to do in just ONE week:
•Frame Canvas
•Print Something For Frames
•Buy TV Wall Mount
•Hang TV
•Buy Floor Lamp
•Buy Baskets or Circular Wall Art
•Hang Above Items
•Decorate Stand
Ok, that's getting kind of long there but I work well procrastinating. 😉 See y'all hopefully next Wednesday all finished!!!! But be sure to visit my other friends and their spaces as we all come near the finish line! Click here !
